Acura Legend Tires

The Acura Legend sedan dates back to 1985 and was a strong performer for its day, with awards from both Car & Driver and Motor Trend. At the time of its introduction, the Acura Legend was the flagship luxury car from that division, with a sleek, aerodynamic body style and a ton of advanced features. Interestingly, the 1990 Acura Legend had the auto industry’s first-ever navigation system, the “Electro Gyro-Locator,” which used a helium-stabilized gyroscope to detect movement and position rather than GPS positioning from a satellite. On the strength of the Acura Legend, the division outsold BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus models for a few years. It was available in coupe or sedan form, in Base, L, LS, and GS trim levels; the Legend was discontinued in 1995.

At SimpleTire, our team has gone through the catalog and picked out some of the best Acura Legend tires, including all-season, performance, and winter tire options. We then sorted them out in Best/Great/Good order and used our SimpleScore system to assign a numerical ranking for each tire in the categories of traction, handling, and longevity. Ready? Let’s go in for a closer look:

1. Kumho Solus TA51a - Best All-Season tire

Let’s kick off our list with the Kumho Solus TA51a, a premium all-season tire. We’ve been pretty impressed with everything from this Korean tire manufacturer, and the Solus TA51A is no exception. The Solus TA51A gets an excellent SimpleScore of 9.6 for longevity, with its silica-rich tread compound, polyester casing, twin steel belts, and two-ply nylon cap layer (the Solus TA51A is covered by a 65,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty). With a SimpleScore of 8.4, traction is another strong point – the Solus TA51A features an asymmetric tread pattern with four wide circumferential grooves to evacuate water and resist hydroplaning and a high density of 3D sipes for improved grip in wet or wintry conditions. The 3D chamfered edges of the Solus TA51A’s tread blocks help resist deformation and keep the most rubber in contact with the pavement while cornering, for a SimpleScore of 8.6 for handling.

2. Falken Sincera SN250 A/S - Best All-Season tire

Next up is one of our favorites in the all-season category, the Sincera SN250 A/S from Falken. Falken designed the Sincera SN250 A/S with class-leading durability and traction in mind, in all kinds of weather. That’s along with great handling and ride comfort, plus Falken backs this all-season tire with a 75,000 or 80,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. That outstanding tread wear coverage can be chalked up to an advanced rubber compound and a rib tread that encourages long, even wear – our team notes a SimpleScore of 9.0 for longevity. Year-round grip is thanks to a combination of circumferential grooves, lateral grooves, and 3D sipes. These features are designed for an interlocking effect from all the tread’s systems, racking up a SimpleScore of 9.0 for handling. Finally, the Sincera SN250’s solid center rib and reinforced shoulders result in great road manners, steering response, braking performance, and cornering for a SimpleScore of 9.0 for handling. We should also note that the Falken Sincera SN250 A/S is equipped with a rim guard flange built into the sidewall that guards the tire and wheel against curb scuffs. The Falken Sincera gets an overall aggregate SimpleScore of 8.7.

3. Hankook Winter iPike RS2 (W429) Studded - Best Winter tire

For the worst that winter weather can throw your way, there’s nothing like a studded tire to get you through ice and snow. The Hankook Winter iPike RS2 (W429) Studded is that kind of tire. The iPike RS2 (W429) Studded is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rated for severe winter service and features a directional tread pattern with a wide center block, zigzag grooves to drain water and slush from the tire’s contact patch, and a dense network of 3D sipes that multiply traction with hundreds of extra biting edges. The iPike RS2 (W429) is pre-drilled to make it easy to install TSMI #11 studs in case of serious winter conditions (always check state laws for the legality of studded tires and any restrictions as to months when they can be used). SimpleScore for traction: 8.4. With a SimpleScore of 8.1 for handling, the iPike RS2 (W429) is not a clumsy and sluggish winter tire; control is first-rate with those tread elements and a tread compound that’s designed to stay flexible for great braking, acceleration and cornering on snow and slush. The Winter iPike RS2 (W429) is durable too, with an Ultra High Tensile Steel Belt package for puncture resistance and high-speed stability. We give the Hankook Winter iPike RS2 (W429) Studded a SimpleScore of 8.5 for longevity.

While these are the best Acura Legend tires on the market, there are plenty of other options to consider.

4. Toyo Eclipse A/S - Great All-Season tire

Next up on the list we come to the Toyo Eclipse A/S, a great value in an all-season tire. We noted the Toyo Eclipse A/S with a SimpleScore of 8.4 for traction, with all-season performance that comes from its specialized all-season tread pattern, and wide, open circumferential and lateral grooves that remove water from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning. Handling registers a strong SimpleScore of 8.6, thanks to the Eclipse A/S’s reinforced shoulder design and solid center rib that improves steering response and stability. The Eclipse A/S does lose some points in longevity with a SimpleScore of 7.6; however, it’s also covered by a 50,000 mile warranty (65,000 miles for select sizes). We should also mention here that the Eclipse A/S uses Toyo’s Silent Wall technology that cuts down on pipe noise and cancels certain frequencies to keep road noise to a minimum.

5. Westlake RP18 - Good All-Season tire

We’re going to close out this roundup with the Westlake RP18, a great value in an all-season tire that delivers far above expectations when it comes to performance and overall bang for the buck. Wear properties are excellent; Westlake backs the RP18 with a 45,000 mile warranty, and we give this tire a SimpleScore of 8.2 for longevity. We also need to mention the dependable year-round traction of the RP18, thanks to its all-season tread pattern of circumferential grooves, angled/lateral grooves, and a dense network of sipes. Taking that into account, we give the RP18 a SimpleScore of 8.1 for traction. Steering response, cornering, braking, and road manners are all predictable and stable thanks to that tread design, along with a notched shoulder and a contact patch that’s optimized to keep the most rubber in contact with the road at all times for a handling SimpleScore of 8.3.
