I needed a new set of tires for a Range Rover Classic and wanted something agressive for offroad, yet smooth enough for highway travel. This isn't quite a mud tire but a very aggressive AT. I've owned some Kanati trail hogs before and while great tires, they can be a bit noisy. I decided to try a set of these new Overlander RTX this time. These tires fit the bill perfectly. My impression so far is this is a great alternative to the BFG KO2 for almost half the price. These tires ARE 3-Peak winter rated. Simple Tire as always, delivered faster than expected and I am very happy with these tires so far.

If you’re driving a 4WD-equipped light truck, Jeep, or SUV, what are you looking for in a set of tires? If you want to get the most benefit out of your truck’s 4WD drivetrain, ruggedized suspension, and extra ride height, what you need is an all-terrain tire that has the durability and dependable off-road traction to get you through the roughest conditions and terrain. The flip side is that your all-terrain tire should also deliver stable road manners, dependable and composed ride quality, a quiet ride on the pavement, and predictable handling on dry or wet roads.
We will talk about the Overland RTX from Kanati, an all-terrain tire that checks all those boxes at a surprisingly affordable price. Let’s get in and take a closer look at what the Kanati Overland RTX has to offer:
Features and Benefits
Here are some of the design features that make the Kanati Overland RTX a great performer and a great value:
- Aggressive tread blocks with lug pattern and multi-angled grooves
- Tread grooves are designed to easily eject mud, stones, and debris, ensuring there’s always a clear section of the tire to dig in as the wheel turns
- Reinforced sidewall and tough tread formulation to resist punctures, cuts, and scrapes
- Tread pitch randomized and computer-tuned to cancel certain frequencies and overtones, keeping road noise low
- The pattern of multi-directional sipes multiplies grip with hundreds of hair-thin biting edges to chew through snow, slush, mud, standing water
- 10 ply rated
- Covered by 40,000 mile limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty
Pros and Cons
PROS:
- Durable construction and tread compound
- Good self-cleaning of mud and debris
- Handling, road manners, and ride are all composed and confident on pavement
- Generous limited manufacturer’s tread life coverage
CONS:
- Not 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for severe winter service

SimpleTire’s View on Kanati Overland RTX Tires
Are you familiar with SimpleTire’s SimpleScore system? SimpleScore is the method the SimpleTire team developed to give you a quick, at-a-glance idea of a tire’s strengths and weaknesses. We look at the tire’s specs, manufacturer info, customer reviews, and other data points. Then, we cook that info down to a 1-10 numerical value for traction, handling, longevity, and an overall average SimpleScore number. For the Kanati Overland RTX, the SimpleScore ratings shake out like this:
Kanati Overland RTX:
Traction: 7.0 Handling: 7.7 Longevity: 8.6 Overall average SimpleScore: 7.7
Starting at $155.99 per tire, many all-terrain tires are far more expensive than the Kanati Overland RTX. Here at SimpleTire, this tire punches far above its weight class and delivers a great bang for the buck at that price. A self-cleaning tread for any all-terrain or mud-terrain tire is important; it protects the casing from damage from rocks and debris, and flinging mud from the tread grooves is crucial to traction. The wide grooves and void ratio of the Kanati help it efficiently clear the tread of mud and gravel, so there’s always a clear section of the tread to dig in as the wheel turns.
All-terrain tires have a bit of a reputation for being sluggish and noisy on the pavement. Still, the Kanati is responsive and predictable in its handling and cornering, if not quite up to the standards of a performance tire. Steering response is quick and accurate, and cornering and braking performance are precise and in line with the vehicle’s suspension and driving dynamics. It can get a little noisy on some pavement surfaces, but the Kanati is quiet overall and has enough of a controlled ride to be driver-friendly on long trips.
The Kanati does exceptionally well off the pavement in deeper mud and loose dirt, with the durability needed to stand up to rough conditions and terrain. Its performance in snow is a bit of an unanswered question, but the tread design and full 16/32” tread depth with a dense pattern of sipes should deliver confident traction in winter driving. We also appreciate its 40,000 mile limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty, which is pretty respectable for any all-terrain tire regardless of price point. Overall, it’s our take here at SimpleTire that the Kanati Overland RTX is a great value in an all-terrain tire for light trucks and SUVs, delivering respectable performance at a surprisingly affordable price.
